Business Operations Specialist

Business Operations Specialist reviews the day-to-day aspect as it relates to purchasing and contractual agreements and provides guidance and analysis for the purpose of improving operational processes that not only serve the staff and students at the Mississippi Schools for the Deaf and the Blind but to also make sure the school is in compliance with state laws and regulations.

Technology Purchases

When purchasing any technology related items, such as computers, computer components, software, etc., staff members must consult with IT. IT will advise, give recommendations and consult with the Superintendent before any decision is made on any technology purchases.

If the decision is made to proceed with purchase, IT or staff members will prepare the purchase requisition and submit to the Business Manager who will ensure funds are available, code and submit to Business Operations who will then review the quotes to make sure everything is in proper order before generating the Purchase Order.

Business Operations will email the Purchase Order to the requesting staff member who will then submit the Purchase Order to the vendor. Once the purchase has been received, or services completed, it is the responsibility of IT or staff members to make sure everything was received, obtain and sign-off on the invoice(s) and packing slip and submit to Business Operations for payment processing.

Technology Department

The Information Technology Department at Mississippi Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (MSDB) is committed to helping to provide a high-quality education for every child in the State of Mississippi who attends. MSDB’s IT team is dedicated with a shared passion for technology as a tool for unlocking the potential of every child in our district. And we continuously provide the latest technologies and innovative improvements for future technological growth,  assessments and analysis necessary to meet the district’s Information Technology goals for today and tomorrow..

Serving the needs of our growing community of students, teachers, administration, and staff at MSDB requires a secure, robust infrastructure, state of the art equipment, and innovative software. These tools support learning in the schools onsite and virtually if needed to help provide the best possible educational experience for our students and supplement the tools needed by the MSBD staff to teach at the highest level provided.

Interventions

The Office of Special Services (Pre-K –12) supports educators who are working with struggling learners, including students who are learning English as a second language. This office is focused on improving academic and behavioral outcomes for students. Staff coordinates the local implementation of policies and procedures and provides intervention on Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for school-based teams and students.

This office also offers guidance and support to educators and students related to intervention selection, data-based decision making, evaluation, progress monitoring, dyslexia, gifted learners, and English learners to ensure all students graduate high school ready for college and career.

Three Tier Instructional Model

The Three Tier Instructional Model is a part of State Board Policy 41.1). This model is designed to meet the needs of every student and consists of three tiers of instruction:

Quality classroom instruction based on Mississippi standards.


If Tier 1 and 2 instruction is unsuccessful, students must be referred to the Teacher Support Team (TST). The TST is the district team responsible for interventions developed at Tier 3. Each school must have a TST implemented in accordance with the process developed by the Mississippi Department of Education.

Outreach

The Mississippi Instructional Resource Center (MIRC)


MIRC serves as a repository for braille textbooks, large print textbooks, and specialized educational materials. The MIRC coordinates the registration of students who are legally blind and manages the APH Federal Quota Funds. The funds are used to purchase braille, large print, and specialized textbooks and educational materials for students who are legally blind in public, private, and parochial schools and other statewide agencies.

The MIRC is also appropriated funds by the state legislature to provide services to partially-sighted students whose best corrected vision is no better than 20/70 or whose doctor requests large print textbooks.
